Let's Go! To Japan
Let's Go! To Japan review
I recently had the chance to play Let's Go! To Japan, and I was pleasantly surprised. The concept of planning a trip to Japan, then actually experiencing it through the cards you've collected is really unique. It's an engine-building game, but unlike many others, it's not about constantly trying to outmaneuver your opponents. Instead, everyone is working towards their own perfect vacation, and there's a real sense of shared excitement as the game progresses.
The art is absolutely stunning, and the cards are beautifully designed. The game has a good balance of strategy and luck, and it's easy to learn but difficult to master. It's also great for playing solo, which I appreciate since I don't always have people to play with. I found the solo mode against the "travel agent" to be a satisfying challenge.
I do agree with some of the other reviewers about the components. The player boards are a bit flimsy and the cardboard insert is very thin. I had a similar experience with some of the tokens having miscuts. It's a shame because the overall production quality is otherwise very good. However, these minor issues didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game, which was a lot of fun. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Japan or enjoys a good engine-building game.
