Pulsar 2849
Pulsar 2849 review
Pulsar 2849 is a truly fascinating game. It’s a Euro-style dice drafting game with a unique circular board and a ton of variability. I really enjoyed the theme, even though it's not super heavy-handed, it's exciting to explore space and claim pulsars. I think it's a game that requires a big table though, at least 5 feet wide and long!
The game itself is pretty complex, with lots of options for planning your strategy. It's definitely not for beginners, but if you're into medium-weight strategy games with a lot of depth, this is a great option. The drafting mechanic is really interesting and makes the game feel less reliant on luck, but it also adds a lot of strategic depth to the decisions you make.
I will say that the setup can be a bit daunting at first, and the rule book is a bit complicated. However, there are some really helpful YouTube videos that can walk you through the rules. Once you get the hang of it, though, the game moves pretty quickly.
My main concern is the game length. It took our group about 3 1/2 hours to play, and that doesn't even include the time spent reading the instructions. If you don't have a lot of time to play, this might not be the game for you. But, if you're willing to invest a couple of hours, it's definitely worth the effort. I find the game so engaging that the time flies by.
Overall, I'd highly recommend Pulsar 2849. It's a great game with a lot of replayability and variability. I'm definitely planning on playing it again soon!
