The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire review

I recently picked up The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire and I'm really enjoying it. It's a standalone game set in the same universe as the original Manhattan Project, but with a focus on the rise of nations in the atomic age. The game is a worker placement game, and each player takes control of a nation, building up industry, commerce, and government. The core mechanics are simple: on your turn, you can either send out workers to build or generate energy. But these simple mechanics create a lot of strategic depth and choice.

One of the things I really like about Energy Empire is the theme. It's a really interesting take on the atomic age, and the game does a good job of capturing the challenges and opportunities of this era. It's not just about building up your nation's industry; it's also about making choices about how to manage your resources and your environment. It forces you to balance your need for energy with the need to keep pollution in check. I found this aspect really engaging, and it made me think about the real-world challenges of energy production.

The game is very well-made. The components are high quality, the art is nice, and the rules are easy to learn. I've played with 2-4 players and it scales well. There are lots of different ways to play, and you can tailor the game to your group's preferences. Some reviews mentioned a lack of insert, so definitely check that if storage is important to you.

Overall, I would highly recommend The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire. It's a great game for fans of worker placement games, Eurogames, or anyone looking for a fun and engaging game with a unique theme. The game does a great job of blending theme, mechanics, and strategy, and I think it's definitely one of the best worker placement games available.
