Rajas of the Ganges
Rajas of the Ganges review
Rajas of the Ganges is a visually stunning game that transports you to 16th century India. You take on the role of a powerful noble, competing to build the most prosperous province and gain the most fame. The game is packed with interesting mechanics, including worker placement, dice rolling, tile placement, and resource management.
The game is definitely not for beginners, with a lot of options and strategic decisions to be made on each turn. It took me a few plays to fully grasp the rules and all the different options. But once I did, I was hooked! The game is full of exciting decisions, making it a race to the finish.
I was particularly impressed by the unique victory condition, which involves reaching a specific level of both money and fame. This adds a whole new layer of strategy and tension to the game. I also loved the use of dice as a resource, adding a bit of randomness to the game but also providing a lot of interesting decisions.
I have to admit that the rules about the market can be a little confusing at first. But once you get the hang of it, it adds a nice layer of complexity to the game. Some reviewers mentioned that the Royal Elephant, the 1st player marker, is a bit flimsy. I haven't had any issues with it yet, but I can see how that could be a problem.
Overall, I highly recommend Rajas of the Ganges to anyone looking for a strategic and engaging board game. It's a bit of a learning curve, but the rewards are well worth the effort. It's a beautiful game, with great components and a captivating theme.
