Heaven & Ale
Heaven & Ale review
Heaven & Ale is a fantastic game that has quickly become a favorite in our game group. The premise is simple: you're a brewmaster running a monastery brewery, and you need to produce the best beer in the land. But the gameplay is surprisingly deep and engaging.
The game's core mechanic is the production track, where you move your resource markers and brewmaster. It's a challenging balancing act, as you need to make sure you're moving both your resource markers and brewmaster equally to maximize your points. The conversion rate between resources and points can be anywhere from 5:1 to 1:1, depending on where your brewmaster is on the track.
The gameplay itself is very smooth, and there's not a lot of downtime between turns. I found the game to be very reminiscent of Monopoly, but in a good way. You're constantly making decisions about where to place your resources, how to activate your properties, and how to balance your different resources.
The player interaction is also well-balanced. You're competing with other players for resources and goals, but it's not a cutthroat, backstabbing kind of competition. Instead, it's a more strategic and collaborative kind of competition, which I really appreciate.
Overall, Heaven & Ale is a well-designed and engaging game. It's easy to learn, but challenging to master, and it's a great game for players of all experience levels. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys strategy games or games with a bit of a thematic twist.
