The Castles of Tuscany
The Castles of Tuscany review
The Castles of Tuscany is a game that I've been wanting to try for a while now, and I finally got my hands on a copy. I've heard so much about it, especially its comparison to the acclaimed Castles of Burgundy, and I was eager to see what all the fuss was about.
I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated by the English rulebook. It did seem a bit clunky and confusing, and I can definitely see why some people have mentioned issues with it. But, honestly, once I sat down and started playing, the rules clicked pretty quickly. It's not a complex game at all, and the iconography on the player boards and tiles is very helpful.
What I really enjoyed about this game was the strategic depth it offers within a relatively quick playing time. You're constantly making choices about which tiles to place, which cards to play, and how to best build your region to maximize your points. There's a satisfying sense of accomplishment when you manage to pull off a clever move or create a chain of actions that really boosts your score.
I also appreciate that this game is relatively easy to teach, even though it has some depth to it. This makes it a great choice for introducing people to more complex board games.
Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to try The Castles of Tuscany. It's a fun, engaging game with a lot of replayability, and it's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of tile-placement games.
