Praga Caput Regni
Praga Caput Regni review
I've been wanting to try Praga Caput Regni for a while now, and I finally took the plunge! I was a bit hesitant based on some mixed reviews, but I'm a big fan of Vladimir Suchy's work, and I loved Underwater Cities, so I figured it was worth a shot.
And I'm so glad I did! This game is a delightful and engaging experience. The core mechanic of the action crane is simple, but it leads to a ton of interesting decisions and combinations. I love how the actions you choose can have ripple effects throughout the game. One turn I might advance a technology, which then grants me a bonus window, which lets me take a second turn, which earns me a research tile, and that tile grants me a third turn...it's a beautiful chain reaction!
I also really enjoy the theme and the way the game captures the feeling of building up medieval Prague. The components are fantastic, especially the player boards with their cleverly designed slots for resources and markers. The artwork is beautiful, and the game just feels high quality overall.
I've only played it a few times, but I'm already hooked. It's a great game for two players, and I can't wait to try it with more people. I highly recommend giving Praga Caput Regni a shot if you're looking for a satisfying and engaging eurogame with a fun theme.
I do want to note that I have heard some complaints about the game arriving damaged. This is a shame, because it truly is a beautiful game and deserves to be presented well. Hopefully, the packaging will be improved in the future.
