Carnegie
Carnegie review
Carnegie is a complex and engaging Eurogame that takes inspiration from the life of Andrew Carnegie, the famed industrialist and philanthropist. As a player, you'll be tasked with building a company from the ground up, managing employees, investing in real estate, and producing goods to sell across the United States. The game is rich in detail, with a lot of moving parts and strategic decisions to be made.
I really enjoyed the depth of Carnegie. It's a game that rewards careful planning and strategic thinking, but it's also a bit of a learning curve. I found that it took a couple of plays to fully understand all of the nuances of the game. However, once you get the hang of it, it's incredibly satisfying.
The game is definitely not for casual gamers. If you enjoy heavier Eurogames with a lot of strategic depth, then this game is definitely for you. However, if you're looking for something more accessible, you may want to look elsewhere. It's not a game that I would recommend for new players, but for those who enjoy a good challenge, it's a must-have.
The components are well-made, with the game's aesthetics being a definite highlight. The wooden player pieces are particularly beautiful and the company department tiles are printed on thick cardboard. The interlocking slide out project tabs on the player boards are a nice touch, and the solo cards have a coated finish. There are a lot of icons in the game, so it can be a bit overwhelming for first-time players. However, the iconography is well-designed and easy to understand once you've played a couple of games.
Overall, I highly recommend Carnegie. It's a challenging but rewarding game that will keep you coming back for more. It's a great game for those who enjoy Eurogames with a lot of depth and strategic thinking.
