Legendary: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Legendary: Buffy The Vampire Slayer review
I'm a big fan of the Legendary series and I was really excited to get my hands on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer version. I've played the Marvel Legendary game a lot and I think this one is just as good, if not better. The game mechanics are familiar but the Buffy theme adds a whole new level of fun.
The game has a light/dark track that influences characters' strength, which I think really adds to the thematic feeling. It's definitely more enjoyable if you're familiar with the show, but you can play it knowing nothing and still have a great time. I've played with both kinds of people and everyone seems to enjoy it.
The game board is different from the other Legendary titles in that it's a rolled up mat. At first, I thought this was a little lame but it quickly grew on me. It's actually pretty cool and I'd welcome more game boards of the same style. I also love the card art and names - I can recall which episode each picture comes from. And the names are all very appropriate and fun.
The game is a little involved and takes a little getting used to, but it's a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. It's definitely a more challenging game than the Marvel version, but I think it's a good challenge. I love the addition of the Darkness mechanic and the extra effects of rescuing bystanders.
Overall, I highly recommend this game to any fan of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series or the Legendary series in general. It's a great game night option and a fun way to relive the show.
