Julius Caesar: Caesar, Pompey, and the Roman Civil War review

I recently had the opportunity to play Julius Caesar: Caesar, Pompey, and the Roman Civil War, and I have to say, it's a real gem. As a fan of Columbia block war games, I was immediately drawn to this title. It cleverly combines elements from other Columbia games, creating a strategic and engaging experience.

The game's card-driven turn system adds a layer of uncertainty and chance, keeping things fresh and exciting. The "fog of war" aspect is well-implemented, adding to the tactical challenge. And the beautifully designed game board, depicting the Mediterranean region, really immerses you in the Roman Civil War.

I especially appreciated the historical accuracy and the depth of strategy required. Whether you're leading Caesar's veteran legions or Pompey's young forces, there are countless ways to approach the game. The "13 victory point Towns or Cities" provide a clear objective, but the path to victory is anything but straightforward.

While I'm a big fan of the game, I do have to acknowledge that its $80 price tag might seem steep to some. However, if you're looking for a well-crafted, historically accurate, and strategically challenging board game, Julius Caesar is definitely worth the investment. It's a game that will keep you coming back for more, and I highly recommend it to any fan of block war games or historical strategy titles.
