Commands & Colors: Ancients review

Commands & Colors: Ancients is a wargame that depicts warfare from 3000 BC to 400 AD. The game includes 15 battles, each with its own unique terrain and historical deployment of forces. While the battles are stylized, they are still quite engaging and capture the essence of ancient warfare. The game mechanics are simple, but still require strategic card play, historical tactics, and timely dice rolling. I have to admit, I was a little intimidated by the prospect of applying hundreds of stickers to wooden blocks, but once I got started, it was actually quite fun! The game is easy to learn but offers a lot of depth and replayability. The command card system creates a true fog of war, and the battle dice system resolves combat quickly and efficiently. Overall, I found Commands & Colors: Ancients to be a well-designed and entertaining wargame that is perfect for both beginners and experienced players. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in ancient history or wargaming.

There are some minor drawbacks, however. The rulebook can be a little daunting for beginners, and some players have reported missing pieces. I was lucky enough to have all the pieces I needed, but I can see how a missing piece or two could be a real problem.

Overall, I found Commands & Colors: Ancients to be a great game that I would definitely recommend.
