Faraway
Faraway review
Faraway is a game of strategic card drafting and a touch of luck, set on the mysterious continent of Alula. You'll play 8 cards, each with its own scoring conditions and prerequisites, drafting them each turn. But here's the twist: the prerequisites work in reverse. The card you play this round needs to be fulfilled by cards you'll play in following rounds. This creates a fascinating dynamic, as you gamble on the cards you need to score the ones you've already played, while competing against others who might be vying for the same cards. The unique scoring system, where you score cards in reverse order from how they were played, adds another layer of complexity and strategy, forcing you to carefully plan your moves and balance your priorities.
The game is fairly easy to learn, making it great for introducing to new players. It's also quite fast-paced, with games typically lasting around 30 minutes, even with 6 players. This makes it ideal for a quick and fun gaming session. I've found that the game provides a great balance between strategic planning and a bit of luck, keeping things interesting and unpredictable. While some might find the reverse scoring system a bit confusing initially, it adds a unique depth that makes Faraway stand out from other card drafting games. It's a solid, engaging game that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun, quick, and strategic game for their game night.
