Evergreen
Evergreen review
Evergreen is a beautiful game that I really enjoyed. I'm a fan of abstract strategy games and this one hit the spot for me. It has a similar mechanic to Photosynthesis, but it's more streamlined and focuses on your own board. I love the art style, the wooden pieces are high quality, and the game is easy to learn. I found myself able to finish a two-player game in under 30 minutes, making it a great option for a quick yet engaging gaming session.
I think the game is a little less competitive than Photosynthesis, and that's actually a good thing for me. It's really more of a puzzle to solve and less about outsmarting your opponents. There's some card drafting, but it's more about picking the best biome for your strategy rather than trying to block your opponents.
One thing I did find a little frustrating is that the game's replayability could be limited. It feels like there are only so many ways to build your planet, and that might get old after a while. Still, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.
Overall, I'd recommend Evergreen to anyone who loves abstract strategy games and doesn't mind a little bit of fiddling with the small pieces. It's a great game to play solo or with friends, and it's definitely a beautiful addition to any game collection.
