Expeditions
Expeditions review
Expeditions is a wonderful addition to the Scythe universe, though it stands on its own as a great game in its own right. It’s a card-driven, engine-building game of exploration that completely diverges from Scythe’s mechanics, but retains the same compelling atmosphere. While the core mechanics are different, the thematic connection to Scythe is strong. I found myself immediately captivated by the exploration aspect of the game, uncovering the tiles and discovering their unique powers.
The game’s card-play and combo building are very satisfying. I especially appreciate the unique worker abilities and the ability to deploy mechs to different locations. The game is easy to learn, but offers a lot of depth and strategic options. I’ve really enjoyed the variety that comes from the randomized board layout and character assignments.
Overall, I would recommend Expeditions to anyone who loves exploration, card-driven games, or simply wants to experience another facet of the Scythe universe. The game’s mechanics are engaging, the art is beautiful, and the thematic elements are well-developed. I’m sure I’ll be playing Expeditions for many years to come.
