Mosaic: A Story of Civilization
Mosaic: A Story of Civilization review
Mosaic: A Story of Civilization is a game that truly captures the essence of building a civilization. Glenn Drover, known for his work on titles like Age of Empires III and Sid Meier's Civilization, has crafted a compelling experience that's both strategic and engaging.
The game revolves around action selection, where you perform one of eight actions on your turn to acquire pillars of civilization. These pillars are vital for crafting your unique civilization, unlocking technologies, and ultimately scoring points. The strategy lies in choosing the right actions to build a balanced civilization, or perhaps focusing on a specific area to achieve a "Golden Age."
I particularly enjoyed the scoring system. As the game progresses, scoring cards are revealed, allowing you to score points based on your dominance in different regions. It adds an exciting layer of competition and encourages you to carefully plan your city and military expansion.
I will say that it took a few rounds to fully grasp the mechanics, and I found myself referencing the rulebook more than once. But once I understood the flow of the game, it became incredibly enjoyable. A full game can take several hours, but I found it to be a rewarding and immersive experience. I even upgraded to the Kickstarter Colossus edition after my initial playthroughs, which is a testament to how much I enjoyed the game.
If you're a fan of civilization building games, I highly recommend giving Mosaic: A Story of Civilization a try. It's a well-designed game with a lot of depth and replayability.
