After the Empire
After the Empire review
After The Empire is a worker placement/resource management game set in the medieval period. I've enjoyed playing it with friends and family, and I think it's a great game for people of all ages and experience levels. It's relatively easy to learn, but there's a lot of depth to the strategy. I love how you can choose to focus on different aspects of your fiefdom, like gathering resources, building buildings, or recruiting refugees. The combat is also very engaging, and it's always exciting to see what invaders will come at your castle.
I love the physical components of this game - the wooden walls, the cards, and the overall art style are all very well done. The game also feels very thematic, and it really does feel like you're a lord or lady trying to protect your fiefdom from invaders. I've enjoyed many different strategies and have had fun customizing my playstyle to fit the challenges of each round. I've played with multiple groups, and everyone seems to have a fun time. I love that it's easy to pick up and learn, and that the gameplay is always different from game to game. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys medieval history or strategy games.
