Roll Player
Roll Player review
Roll Player is a game that surprised me. I'll admit, the name and the cover art didn't initially grab me. It seemed like a simple character creation game, and I'm not usually a fan of puzzle games. But I kept seeing it pop up in top solo game lists and reviews, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did.
This is a deceptively deep game with simple mechanics. You roll dice to build up your fantasy character's attributes, purchase gear, train skills, and even discover personality traits. The goal is to earn Reputation Stars by creating the perfect character based on your choices. What surprised me was the variety and interaction between cards and abilities, which adds depth and strategy to an otherwise simple game.
At first, I was overwhelmed by the complexity of the choices and suffered from a bit of analysis paralysis. But once I learned to trust my gut and stopped trying to min-max every turn, I found the game to be much more enjoyable.
The expansion, Monsters & Minions, is a must-have for anyone who enjoys the base game. It adds more complexity and variety, along with the ability to actually use your character to fight monsters.
Overall, I highly recommend Roll Player. It's easy to learn, fun to play, and has a surprising amount of depth. If you're a fan of dice-rolling or character-building games, you'll definitely want to check this one out.
