Above and Below
Above and Below review
Above and Below is a charming game that blends town-building with storytelling. The premise is simple: you and your friends compete to build the best village above and below ground. You send villagers to explore the caves, harvest resources, and build houses. Each villager has unique skills, and you have to decide how to best use them.
I really enjoyed the storytelling aspect of the game. When you send a group of villagers to explore the depths, another player reads from a book of paragraphs. You're given a choice of how to react, and your decision depends on which villagers you brought and who you're willing to sacrifice. The book of paragraphs is packed with amazing adventures, randomly chosen each time you explore.
The game itself is a bit of a puzzle. You have to carefully manage your resources and decide how to allocate your villagers. There's a lot of strategy involved, and the game can be quite competitive. However, it's also a lot of fun to play with friends and family. The game isn't too long, typically lasting around an hour, and it's easy to set up, so you can jump into a game quickly.
Overall, I think Above and Below is a great game. It's well-designed, fun to play, and has a lot of replayability. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys board games, especially those who enjoy a good story.
