Atlantis Rising (Second Edition)
Atlantis Rising (Second Edition) review
Atlantis Rising (Second Edition) is a cooperative worker placement game that truly captures the urgency and excitement of saving a sinking island. The game is a race against time, as players work together to gather resources, build a cosmic gate, and ultimately, save their people from the rising tides. The game's thematic elements are really well-done, and the new art and graphic design in this edition add even more to the immersive experience. I particularly enjoyed the "Wrath of the Gods" phase, which replaces the Athenian Attack phase from the original edition and requires players to make strategic choices that increase the sense of urgency. While the game can be challenging, I find the difficulty to be a positive thing, as it makes every win feel truly earned.
I've played this game with both my family and friends, and it's always a hit. It's easy to learn, but it can be quite strategic as you learn the different councilor powers and the mechanics of the game. The game does rely on some luck, but it doesn't feel like the luck completely dictates the outcome. Even if you lose, you'll still have a great time trying to save Atlantis. The game's variable gate components add a lot of replayability, and I can see us playing this game for years to come.
I would highly recommend Atlantis Rising (Second Edition) to anyone who enjoys cooperative games, worker placement games, or games with a strong thematic element. It's a great game for families, friends, or anyone who wants to experience the thrill of saving a sinking island.
