Exit: The Game – The Catacombs of Horror review

I've played a fair share of the Exit games, and I have to say, The Catacombs of Horror really impressed me. It's a two-part game, so it's essentially two games in one, which is fantastic value for the price. I was a little worried about the reviews that said it was two totally separate games, but that's not true at all. It feels like one cohesive adventure, just with a natural break point.

The puzzles in this one are definitely on the harder side, even for a veteran of the series. Some reviewers mentioned obscure or confusing puzzles, but I didn't find that to be the case. Maybe I'm just used to the Exit game mechanics, but I found the puzzles logical and engaging. The first part was challenging, but I thought the second half was even better, with some truly ingenious puzzles.

I have to admit, the final puzzle stumped us for a while. It definitely requires some out-of-the-box thinking. Some reviewers found it frustrating, but I actually appreciated the challenge. It felt satisfying to finally crack it.

A few reviewers mentioned the game's darker tone. Yes, it's definitely spookier than some of the other Exit games. I wouldn't call it satanic, though, like one review claimed. It's more like a classic horror movie vibe. The candle element was a bit of a gimmick, but it added to the atmosphere.

Overall, I loved The Catacombs of Horror. It's a fun, challenging, and unique experience that's definitely worth trying if you're a fan of escape room puzzles. I'd recommend it for experienced players who enjoy a good brain teaser. Just make sure you have a few hours to dedicate to it!
