Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Star Wars: Imperial Assault review
I recently picked up Star Wars: Imperial Assault and I have to say, it's quickly become one of my favorite games. It's a big box game that offers two distinct experiences: a campaign mode where you play through a cinematic story in the Star Wars universe as Rebel heroes battling the Galactic Empire, and a skirmish mode where you can build your own strike force and battle head-to-head against another player.
The campaign mode is what really hooked me. I love the feeling of being a part of a larger narrative, and the game does a great job of making you feel like you're actually making a difference in the Galactic Civil War. The missions are varied and challenging, and you can customize your Rebel heroes with new abilities and equipment as you progress. I also really like the fact that the Imperial player, who controls the Empire, is just as bound by the rules as the Rebel players. This keeps the game fair and balanced, and it also adds a lot of tension to the gameplay.
The skirmish mode is also fun, but I'm more of a campaign guy myself. The skirmish mode is a great way to get your tactical fix, though, and I can see why some players would prefer it. It's a great option for those who want to just jump into a quick battle without having to commit to a longer campaign.
The game comes with a ton of cool stuff, including a lot of detailed miniatures, cards, tokens, and map tiles. I highly recommend painting the miniatures if you have the time, it really adds to the visual appeal of the game. The components are all of good quality, and the box is quite sturdy. The game is a bit pricey, but I think the amount of content you get for the price is well worth it.
If you're a Star Wars fan or you just enjoy tactical board games, I highly recommend Imperial Assault. It's a well-designed game with a lot of depth and replayability. It's also a lot of fun to play with friends. However, be prepared for a bit of a learning curve; the rulebook can be a bit daunting at first. It's also worth noting that there are a lot of expansions and booster packs available for the game, which can add a lot of extra content and replayability. If you're the type of player who likes to build a collection, you could easily spend a lot of money on expansions.
Overall, I think Imperial Assault is a great game that offers a lot of fun and replayability. It's a must-have for any Star Wars fan or board game enthusiast.
