The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth
The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth review
I recently got my hands on The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth and I have to say, it's been a truly immersive experience. The game itself is a fully cooperative adventure for 1-5 players, where you'll take on the roles of iconic characters like Aragorn, Bilbo, Gimli, and Legolas, and embark on epic quests across Middle-earth.
The app-driven gameplay is one of the things that really sets this game apart. It acts as your game master, managing the enemies, the environment, and the story itself. The app does a fantastic job of guiding you through the campaign, from placing tiles to controlling the enemies. This makes it incredibly easy to pick up and play, even for those who are new to tabletop RPGs.
The quality of the components is fantastic. The miniatures are beautifully detailed, and the tiles and cards are well-made and durable. The game also comes with a number of character packs that you can purchase to expand your options.
Now, it's not without its quirks. The app is essential to play, so if you don't have a tablet or phone, you're out of luck. Some reviewers have mentioned that the app can be buggy or prone to crashing, but I haven't personally experienced this. It's also worth noting that the campaign is relatively short compared to games like Gloomhaven. However, Fantasy Flight Games is known for releasing expansions, so I'm sure there will be plenty of content to keep you busy for a while.
If you're a fan of the Lord of the Rings universe and enjoy cooperative tabletop games, Journeys in Middle-Earth is definitely worth checking out. It's a well-designed game with an immersive atmosphere, fun mechanics, and plenty of replayability. I'm having a blast with it and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling adventure in Middle-earth.
