NEOM
NEOM review
NEOM is a city-building game that I've been eagerly anticipating for a while. The premise is simple: you draft tiles to build a city, but the unique twist is that you must connect roads without rotating tiles, forcing careful planning. This is a game for strategic thinkers who enjoy the challenge of balancing short-term gains with long-term goals. The game is inspired by classics like 7 Wonders and Carcassonne, and it definitely delivers on the strategic depth and engaging gameplay that those games are known for.
The core mechanics are easy to learn, but the game rewards players who think ahead. The tile-drafting is a great way to generate tension and excitement, and the "cornerstones" add another layer of strategic depth to each game. I really enjoyed how the game balanced its complexity with a clean and elegant design.
I have to admit, some reviewers have mentioned that the game's artwork and theme could be more engaging, and I do agree. However, the game's mechanics shine through and are engaging enough to keep me coming back for more. It's a game that I feel I can play many times without getting bored.
I'm a bit bummed to hear that some people have experienced shipping problems, though. That's definitely unacceptable! But overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone who loves city-building or tile-laying games.
