Deal with the Devil
Deal with the Devil review
Deal with the Devil is a fascinating game that really dives deep into the thematic experience. It’s a competitive Eurogame set in a medieval fantasy world where you take on a secret role – mortal, cultist, or even the Devil! This aspect of the game adds a layer of intrigue and uncertainty that I really enjoyed.
The asymmetrical roles are a clever touch, ensuring each play feels different. I found myself really getting into the mindset of the Devil, trying to tempt mortals with enticing deals, while the cultist was all too happy to sell their soul! The app does a great job of managing the blind trading phase, keeping the identities of who's trading with whom a secret. It adds an extra layer of suspense as you try to discern who's truly honest and who's selling their soul!
The gameplay itself is engaging and strategic. You have to weigh the risks and rewards of your decisions. Do you sell parts of your soul early on to gain a head start in city building, risking future punishment from the Inquisition? Or do you play it safe, managing your finances while trying to deduce the hidden agendas of your opponents?
I found the learning curve to be manageable, thanks to the well-written rulebook. It took me a couple of plays to fully grasp the nuances of the Devil's role, but that's part of the fun. The component quality and artwork are excellent, and the app functions seamlessly. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Deal with the Devil to anyone looking for a game with deep strategic depth and a truly engaging thematic experience.
