Yokohama
Yokohama review
Yokohama is a game that truly transports you to the bustling streets of Meiji-era Japan. As a merchant, you're vying for success by building your business, managing resources, and navigating trade routes. It's a complex game with plenty of strategic decisions to be made, but it's also surprisingly accessible once you grasp the basics. Each play offers something new, making it a game I keep coming back to.
The game's production value is top-notch. The dual-layered boards are stunning, and the artwork is beautifully done. They've really improved on the older version in this regard.
I was also pleased to see the inclusion of mini-expansions from the previous game. The only minor complaint I have is that the insert isn't quite ideal for sleeved cards. I'm not sure if this is a common issue, but it's something to keep in mind if you're planning on sleeving your cards.
I'm also a fan of the wood tokens, though I did have one minor issue with the metal coins. A few of them were in a bit of rough shape, which was a bit disappointing. However, it's not a major issue and overall, I'm very satisfied with the game.
If you enjoy intricate strategy games with historical themes, Yokohama is definitely worth checking out. It's a game that's sure to provide hours of entertainment for dedicated gamers.
