The Castles of Burgundy
The Castles of Burgundy review
I've been eyeing The Castles of Burgundy for a while now, and finally pulled the trigger on the 2019 anniversary edition. It's a classic for a reason, and this version definitely lives up to the hype. The core gameplay is fantastic – you're rolling dice to collect tiles and build your kingdom, and the strategic decisions you make are constantly affecting your score. There's a lot of depth and replayability, and even though it's a Euro-style game, I found it engaging and fun.
The 2019 edition comes with all the expansions, which is a great value for the price. I haven't had a chance to try them all yet, but I'm looking forward to exploring different ways to play the game.
The only real downside is that the component quality isn't quite as high as I'd expect from an anniversary edition. The player boards are a bit flimsy, and some of the artwork is a bit small and hard to read. But, these are minor nitpicks that don't detract from the overall experience.
Overall, The Castles of Burgundy is a fantastic game that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a strategic, engaging, and fun experience. The 2019 edition is the way to go, especially if you're interested in trying out the expansions.
