Caverna: The Cave Farmers
Caverna: The Cave Farmers review
Caverna: The Cave Farmers is a worker-placement game that I've been wanting to try for a while now. It's like a more accessible version of Agricola, another game by Uwe Rosenberg. I've always been intrigued by the idea of building up your own cave and farm, and the game's components are absolutely beautiful. The wood pieces are high quality and the art on the tiles is very detailed.
It's a big box game, so it's definitely a commitment to learn the rules and set up. I think it's worth it, though. The game is quite complex, but once you understand the basics, it's easy to pick up and play. I really enjoy the strategic choices you have to make, and there are so many different ways to win. I found myself getting lost in the game and losing track of time. It's definitely a game that requires planning and thinking ahead.
The game is also very thematic. I really feel like I'm running a dwarf farm and expanding my cave. It's a lot of fun to build up your little dwarf family and see them grow. The solo variant is also a good way to learn the game and try out different strategies.
However, I do agree with some of the reviewers that the setup and tear down are a bit time-consuming. The box is also a bit small for all the components, so it can be a bit of a struggle to get everything back in. Overall, though, I really love Caverna: The Cave Farmers. It's a great game that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys worker-placement or resource management games.
