Wizard Kings review

Wizard Kings: A Classic Reforged

I recently had the chance to dive into the world of Wizard Kings, the re-released 2nd edition. This game is a blast from the past, harking back to a time of epic fantasy battles and strategic maneuvering. While it's billed as a new edition, it's important to note that it's a re-release of a sold-out classic, not a completely fresh take. This might be a bit of a surprise for some, as the product description doesn't explicitly mention that it's not the latest iteration.

That being said, the game itself is a gem. The combat system is inventive, and the customization options for your armies are fantastic. You can field elves, dwarves, orcs, undead, and even three different human factions – feudal, barbarian, and amazon. The ability to build your army and fight for control of strategic locations on the geomorphic maps creates a truly immersive and dynamic experience.

I'm impressed by the game's versatility. It can be played in a quick one-hour session, or it can form the foundation for an extended miniatures campaign spanning months. The flexibility of the game design, along with the numerous possible scenarios, makes it a real crowd-pleaser.

If you're a fan of classic fantasy board games or are looking for a game with a rich history and solid mechanics, Wizard Kings is definitely worth checking out. Just be aware that this is a re-release, not a completely new edition. If you're a hardcore wargamer looking for the latest and greatest, you might want to look elsewhere. But for those who appreciate a well-made game with a strong foundation, Wizard Kings is a fantastic choice.
