Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past review
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past is a fantastic scenario-driven campaign game that really brings the IDW TMNT comic to life. The game has a ton of replayability thanks to the different missions and the ever-changing characters, which you can customize with different skills and equipment. The core game has 4 players controlling their favorite Turtle and one player taking on the role of Shredder, and it’s a great mix of co-op and competitive play. The missions take about 60-90 minutes and feel like a real adventure, with lots of action and some great moments of teamwork.
The game mechanics are pretty simple to learn, even for people new to RPGs, but they can be quite strategic and fun to master. The dice rolling mechanic is unique and adds a good dose of luck to the game, but the dice are designed to encourage teamwork and strategic thinking. Each Turtle has their own special abilities, which are activated by rolling specific dice combinations, and the character progression adds a lot of depth to the gameplay.
I've been playing this game with my friends for a few months now and we're having a blast. We're all big TMNT fans and we're really enjoying the story, the characters, and the gameplay. If you're looking for a fun and engaging board game that you can play with friends, I highly recommend this one. It’s a great game for anyone who loves the TMNT or for those who are looking for a fun and challenging cooperative RPG experience.
However, there are a few things to consider before diving in. The game does have a lot of components and setup can take a while. If you’re a casual gamer, it’s not the best choice. And, as some reviews have pointed out, the game can be skewed towards the Foot Clan. But for those who are patient, love the theme, and enjoy dungeon crawls, this is a great game that can be enjoyed by both seasoned players and newbies.
