The Reckoners
The Reckoners review
I've been a fan of Brandon Sanderson's work for years, so I was excited to check out *The Reckoners* board game. It really captures the spirit of the books, putting you in the shoes of the Reckoners as you fight against the Epics. The game itself is surprisingly complex and challenging, but it's also very rewarding when you finally manage to take down Steelheart.
The gameplay involves a lot of dice rolling and resource management, but the simultaneous action resolution system keeps everyone engaged. You're constantly working with your teammates to plan attacks, research Epics, and try to stay one step ahead of the ever-growing threat. It's a lot of fun to strategize and pull off coordinated attacks, especially when you're playing with a group who is familiar with the books.
I have to admit, I did find the game a little repetitive after playing it a few times. The core mechanics are solid, but the different Epics don't feel as varied as I'd hoped, and some of the strategies can become predictable after a while. Still, it's a great game for fans of the books, and it's definitely a step up from the typical co-operative board game in terms of complexity and strategic depth.
Overall, I'd say *The Reckoners* is a solid board game with a lot of potential for replayability. It's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the books or if you enjoy challenging, cooperative games with a bit of a tactical edge. It might not be for everyone, but for those who enjoy the genre and a bit of a challenge, *The Reckoners* is a fun and engaging experience.
