Escape the Dark Castle review

Escape the Dark Castle is a simple cooperative game that I've been enjoying quite a bit. I love the retro fantasy style art and the overall theme, it really brings back a sense of nostalgia for those classic dungeon crawls. The game itself is a breeze to set up and learn, making it perfect for a quick game night. I also appreciate that it doesn't require a ton of components like some other board games, just a character card and a die per player.

I think the game is best with at least three players, as the cooperative aspect really shines with a larger group. It does have a good amount of replayability as the castle layout and challenges are randomly generated each time you play. The combat system is pretty straightforward, but I do find it to be a bit luck-based. There's definitely a strategic element in choosing your actions and managing your character's hit points, but ultimately the dice rolls will often determine the outcome.

I've had a few issues with the shipping quality, though. Some reviewers have reported receiving damaged boxes, and unfortunately, I experienced this myself. It was definitely a disappointment to receive a game that was clearly mishandled in transit. However, I am giving the game itself a high rating as I think it's really fun and engaging, even if it's a bit on the easy side. I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoys cooperative games, especially if you're looking for a fun and quick game that's easy to pick up and play.
