Brian Boru: High King of Ireland review

Brian Boru: High King of Ireland is a beautiful game that's as fun as it is elegant. The game is a unique blend of trick-taking, area control, and drafting. The goal is to unite Ireland under your rule by securing control through might, cunning, and matrimony. You'll need to fend off Viking invaders, build monasteries to extend your influence, and gather support in towns and villages. I love that you can gain influence in a town by winning a trick, but if you lose, you get to take an action corresponding to the suit of the card you played. It adds a really interesting layer of strategic depth to the game.

One thing I really appreciate is how easy it is to learn but how much depth there is to the gameplay. I've played with a variety of groups and everyone has enjoyed it. Even the more casual players pick it up quickly. There's just so much replayability with all the different ways to win. It's a game I know I'll be coming back to again and again.

The components are top-notch, with beautiful artwork and high-quality pieces. If you're looking for a game that's both strategic and visually appealing, Brian Boru: High King of Ireland is a great option.
