Tournament at Avalon
Tournament at Avalon review
Tournament at Avalon is a really fun trick-taking game that's easy to learn but has a surprising amount of depth. It's based on the original Tournament at Camelot, but adds new characters, cards, and mechanics. I really like how the game encourages you to focus on informal diplomacy and alliances, as well as the standard combat. It's a really refreshing change of pace from other trick-taking games I've played.
The game itself is pretty straightforward. You're playing as a legendary character, trying to take down your opponents by collecting cards, which represent weapons like swords, arrows, and sorcery. The more cards you collect, the more damage you take. But there are also "Godsend" cards that can help you heal or pass off damage to other players. It's a nice twist on the typical trick-taking game where you want to collect the most cards.
I really appreciate the unique character system. Each character has special abilities that you can use throughout the game. It adds a lot of variety and replayability, because every game feels different depending on who you're playing as. The artwork is also fantastic, really capturing the Arthurian legend.
If you're looking for a fun, challenging, and thematic trick-taking game, I highly recommend Tournament at Avalon. It's a great choice for families and groups of friends.
