Tammany Hall
Tammany Hall review
Tammany Hall is a game that truly captures the cutthroat world of 19th-century New York City politics. The rules are simple to learn but offer a lot of strategic depth, making it a great choice for both new and experienced board gamers. The game is set in the era of Boss Tweed and focuses on the power struggles between various immigrant groups vying for control of the city.
I was immediately drawn to the theme and enjoyed the mechanics of building your power base, collecting political favors, and manipulating the different immigrant groups. The game is full of tension and intrigue as you try to outmaneuver your opponents and secure the mayoralty. The election system is particularly clever, with players having to constantly negotiate and form alliances, which can easily shift and backstabbing is always a possibility.
The components are well-made and the artwork is evocative of the time period. I also appreciated the inclusion of a detailed rulebook that clearly explains the game's mechanics. The only slight issue I encountered was a damaged board, but thankfully, the publisher quickly sent a replacement.
Overall, I highly recommend Tammany Hall to anyone looking for a game with a unique theme, clever mechanics, and engaging gameplay. It's a game that will keep you on the edge of your seat and force you to think strategically, all while immersing you in a fascinating historical setting.
