High Society
High Society review
High Society is a quick, engaging card game that's easy to learn but offers surprisingly deep strategic choices. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful art and vintage aristocrat feel of the cards, which really adds to the game's charm. The core mechanic is simple: bid on luxury cards to score points, but be careful not to spend all your money! The twist that really elevates the game is the "least money" rule. You can't just go all-in on the most valuable cards, as the player with the least cash at the end is automatically out. This adds a whole new level of tension to the bidding, forcing players to carefully consider their spending and risk.
The game is designed to be played with 3-5 players, and I've had a blast with both smaller and larger groups. The auction system is a lot of fun, and it always leads to some interesting conversations and moments of strategic brilliance (or blunders!). Some reviewers mentioned a tendency for the game to feel repetitive after repeated plays, but I haven't experienced that yet. It's a great filler game to break out before or after a longer board game, and I've even enjoyed playing it solo to practice my bidding strategy.
Overall, High Society is a fantastic little card game that I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quick, fun, and beautifully designed experience. It's not the deepest strategy game out there, but it's a perfect choice for a casual game night or a quick pick-up-and-play session.
