Unforgiven: The Lincoln Assassination Trial
Unforgiven: The Lincoln Assassination Trial review
I've always been fascinated by the Lincoln assassination, and when I saw this game, I was immediately intrigued. It's a two-player game where you play as either the prosecution or defense in the trial of Mary Surratt, the first woman to be executed for treason in the United States. The game is based on the actual trial, and it's a tense and exciting experience. The theme is not for everyone, but for history buffs like myself, it's incredibly engaging.
The components are top-notch: beautifully illustrated cards, heavyweight tiles, and a sturdy box. The gameplay is reminiscent of 7 Wonders Duel, which is one of my all-time favorite two-player games. There's a similar card draft system and multiple paths to victory. However, Unforgiven introduces a dice track that adds a layer of strategic depth and risk-reward decisions.
The game takes a bit longer than 7 Wonders Duel, but I never found myself wanting to rush through a turn. Each decision feels meaningful and strategic, and there are many ways to build your case. I can't say for sure if it will dethrone 7 Wonders Duel as my favorite two-player game, but it's definitely a contender. If you're looking for a historical, strategic, and engaging two-player game, Unforgiven: The Lincoln Assassination Trial is definitely worth checking out.
