Thunderstone Advance: Numenera review

I've been a fan of deck-building games for a while now, and Thunderstone Advance: Numenera definitely caught my eye. The Numenera setting, with its unique blend of science and magic, intrigued me, and I was eager to see how it translated to the Thunderstone system. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed.

The game itself is a lot of fun. It introduces some interesting new mechanics, like the "Doomladen" system that unites different monster groups against you, and the use of colored XP for various effects. While I do wish there was a reference card for the XP effects, it's still a great addition. The new Setting cards immerse you in the world of Numenera, and the artwork is fantastic, perfectly capturing the game's unique aesthetic.

I do have a couple of minor gripes. I found the hero names a bit underwhelming, and some of the card text could have been clearer. But these are small points in an otherwise enjoyable experience. I really appreciate that this game is standalone and can be played with other Thunderstone sets. I've been playing it mostly solo, and it's been a great way to unwind after a long day.

Overall, I highly recommend Thunderstone Advance: Numenera to fans of deck-building games and the Numenera setting. It's a solid game with a unique flavor that's sure to keep you entertained. Just make sure you check your cards when you receive it! I was lucky enough to get a complete set, but I have seen reports of some people getting damaged or missing cards.
