Smash Up: Marvel review

I've been a fan of Smash Up for a while now, and I was really excited to see a Marvel-themed expansion. I was a bit hesitant at first because I've heard mixed reviews about the quality of the cards in this set, but I decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did.

The game itself is great. It's still the same Smash Up I love, with the same fun gameplay and strategy, but with a Marvel twist. The factions are all well-themed and balanced, and there are some really interesting combinations you can create. For example, I love the idea of pairing SHIELD with HYDRA, who would have thought they'd be a good match? It's just a shame they didn't include some of the more unique or well-known Marvel characters, but it's a fun set nonetheless.

The artwork on the cards is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the cards are really great, with artwork that's directly lifted from the comics, but others are a bit generic and don't quite capture the Marvel spirit. However, the art's not a dealbreaker for me. I'm more interested in the gameplay and strategy, and this set delivers on that front.

As for the quality of the cards, I'm a bit torn. Some people have complained that the cards are thin and flimsy, and I can see why. They're definitely not as thick or sturdy as the cards in other Smash Up expansions. However, I've only been playing with the set for a few weeks now and I haven't had any issues with the cards yet. They haven't bent or broken, and they still shuffle well. But if you're a hard-core collector or you're concerned about card quality, you might want to sleeve these cards.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Smash Up: Marvel is a fun, exciting addition to the Smash Up series. It's a great way to add some Marvel flavor to your game nights. If you're a fan of Marvel, Smash Up, or both, you should definitely check this expansion out.
