Risk: Game of Thrones review

Risk: Game of Thrones is a great addition to my board game collection. I've always been a fan of the classic Risk game, but the Game of Thrones theme adds a whole new level of excitement. As a fan of the show, I was immediately drawn to the detailed maps and character cards.

The game features two different maps, Westeros and Essos, which can be used for various player counts. I've enjoyed playing with both 2 and 3 players, and the game length is perfect for an evening session.

The biggest change from classic Risk is the introduction of gold as a resource. This adds a new layer of strategy to the game, as players can use gold to purchase objective cards, which provide specific goals to work towards, or maester cards, which offer powerful one-time abilities.

The maester cards are a particularly fun element, as they often have thematic references to the show. It's been hilarious to see my friends' carefully crafted plans derailed by a well-timed card. The character cards, which represent different houses from the show, also add a unique flavor to the game.

I've also appreciated the smaller army sizes, which help to speed up the game without sacrificing the strategic depth.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Risk or Game of Thrones. It's a fantastic combination of classic gameplay and thematic immersion.

However, I do have a few minor criticisms. First, the creation of House Ghiscari feels like a missed opportunity. I would have preferred to see a more iconic house, such as House Greyjoy, represented instead.

Secondly, the game pieces could use a few more units, especially for games with more than 2 players. It can be frustrating to run out of units before the game ends.

Finally, the cards are a bit flimsy and feel like they could easily get damaged.

Despite these minor flaws, Risk: Game of Thrones is a great game that I would highly recommend to any fan of the show or the classic Risk game.
