Raiders of Scythia
Raiders of Scythia review
Raiders of Scythia is a fantastic worker placement game that I highly recommend. I was initially skeptical as I own and love Raiders of the North Sea, but this game is a re-imagining and optimization of that game. It feels like a fresh take on the original, while retaining the engaging gameplay I loved. The components are well-made and the artwork is beautiful. The game is easy to learn and has enough depth to keep you entertained. I was particularly impressed by the solo mode, which is simple yet effective. I also appreciated the inclusion of the "automa" for solo play, which is a welcome addition to many modern board games.
Some reviewers mentioned that the game board can be a bit busy, and while I agree that it can be visually overwhelming at times, I found it to be more of a minor distraction than a detriment to gameplay. Others also commented on the absence of metal coins, which are advertised in the product images. I can understand their frustration, but I found the cardboard tokens to be perfectly acceptable.
Overall, Raiders of Scythia is a well-designed game that offers a fun and engaging experience for both solo and multiplayer play. I'm glad I chose this over Raiders of the North Sea with its expansions, as the value for the price is simply unbeatable. If you're a fan of worker placement games, I highly recommend giving Raiders of Scythia a try.
