Nova Roma
Nova Roma review
I recently had the pleasure of playing Nova Roma, a game that transports you back to the founding of Constantinople. The premise is simple: you're the head of a Roman house vying for influence and favor with the Emperor. This isn't a war-torn, battle-heavy game, though. Nova Roma is more about strategic resource management, careful placement of your family members, and clever use of your limited actions.
What I really loved about Nova Roma is its depth. There are so many different ways to approach the game. You can focus on building a powerful economic engine, controlling the trade routes, or investing in prestigious buildings. You can even focus on securing victory points through the hippodrome races! The variety of strategies keeps each game feeling fresh and exciting.
The game's components are top-notch. The board is beautiful, the tiles are thick and sturdy, and the player pieces are wonderfully detailed. The rulebook is clear and well-written, but it's definitely a game that's best learned through a play-through. I highly recommend bringing a friend or two along for the first game.
Overall, I would say Nova Roma is a fantastic game for experienced board gamers who enjoy complex strategy and resource management. It's not a game for everyone, but if you're looking for something unique and rewarding, this is definitely one to check out.
