Marrakesh review

Marrakesh is a fantastic game by Stefan Feld that's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of his other works like The Castles of Burgundy. The game is played over three rounds, with each round consisting of four turns. Players secretly choose three colored cylinders, place them on their player board, and then use them to take actions that allow them to gain wealth, influence, and bonuses. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

I really like the feel of Marrakesh. It's got a good mix of tactics and strategy. The game initially feels very open-ended, but you quickly start to develop a strategy based on the available resources and your own personal goals. The rules are easy to understand, especially if you're familiar with Stefan Feld's other games. The rulebook is well-written and even includes explanations for each game tile.

However, there's a bit of a warning. The photos online are for the deluxe edition, which is quite expensive. The essential edition is significantly cheaper, but it lacks some of the fancy components. The essential edition, which I got, was packaged well, and all components were accounted for, although one of the corners of the game box was slightly damaged. The assembly was easy enough, though I did have to flex the cardboard a bit to get the keshi tower assembled properly.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend Marrakesh. It's a fun and engaging game that's sure to provide plenty of replay value. Just be sure to double-check which version you're ordering to avoid any surprises.
