Liberty: The American Revolution 1775-83 review

Liberty: The American Revolution 1775-83 - A Review

I recently had the pleasure of playing Liberty: The American Revolution 1775-83, and I must say, it's a truly engaging and challenging game. The game captures the essence of the American Revolution with its focus on the British, American, and French forces, as well as the inclusion of the Indians and Navies. This is a block game, similar in design to Columbia's other popular games like Hammer of the Scots. While I was initially skeptical about the transition from area movement to a hex-based map, the gameplay felt natural and flowed nicely.

The card play adds an element of unpredictability, while the wintering rules realistically reflect the challenges faced by the armies during the conflict. The game components are high-quality, with the wooden blocks, map, and cards adding a tactile experience that truly immerses you in the historical setting.

I found the game to be quite challenging, but in a good way. You really need to strategize and think ahead to achieve victory. This game is definitely not for casual gamers, but for those who enjoy a complex and strategic wargame, Liberty is a must-have.
