Horrified: American Monsters review

I've been a fan of the original Horrified game for a while now, so when I saw Horrified: American Monsters come out, I knew I had to give it a try. The premise is basically the same: you're a group of investigators trying to defeat a bunch of monsters before they overrun the town. But instead of classic Universal Monsters, this time you're facing off against American cryptids like Bigfoot, Mothman, and the Jersey Devil.

The game is really well-made. The artwork is fantastic, the plastic miniatures are nice, and the board itself is really cool. I especially loved the diversity of the characters, which is something I appreciate seeing in board games these days. The gameplay is also pretty straightforward and easy to learn, even for people who aren't super experienced with board games. My cousin and I were able to pick it up pretty quickly and start playing.

I will say that the rules can be a little confusing at first, especially for some of the more complex monsters. There are a few typos and inconsistencies in the rulebook, which can be frustrating. But once you get the hang of it, the gameplay is really fun. I especially enjoyed the Jersey Devil, which adds a unique twist to the game by removing citizens from the monster deck.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend Horrified: American Monsters to anyone who enjoys cooperative board games or classic horror movies. It's a fun, challenging, and thematic game that's perfect for a night in with friends or family. Just be warned that there are a lot of small tokens, so you might want to find a way to organize them.
