Egizia: Shifting Sands
Egizia: Shifting Sands review
Egizia: Shifting Sands is a fantastic update to the already great Egizia. As a big fan of the original, I was eager to see how this new edition would fare, and I'm happy to report that it's a definite improvement. The core mechanics of worker placement and resource management remain the same, but the new additions really elevate the game.
The new monuments, like the Colonnade and the Statues, add a lot of depth and strategy to the game. The Colonnade, with its randomized rewards, keeps each game feeling fresh, while the Statues offer a unique challenge with their escalating requirements.
The shifting river and the updated turn five cards make the game feel more dynamic and engaging. I especially appreciate the changes made to the turn five cards, which now make more sense in the context of the final turn.
If you're a fan of the original Egizia, then you absolutely need to check out Shifting Sands. It's a polished and refined version of a great game. And if you're new to the series, this is a fantastic place to start.
The only downside I can see is the language dependency. While the game uses icons, some players might still find it difficult to understand the rules without reading the manual. However, this is a minor issue and doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
Overall, Egizia: Shifting Sands is a must-have for anyone who enjoys worker placement games. It's a well-designed, engaging, and strategic game that I highly recommend.
