The Duke: Lord's Legacy review

I've been wanting to try The Duke for a while now, and I finally got my hands on the Lord's Legacy edition. I've heard great things about this game, and I'm happy to report that it lives up to the hype!

The game is basically a more strategic version of chess, with a few twists that make it even more fun. Each piece has two different movement patterns, which you can choose between after each move. This adds a lot of variety and replayability to the game, and it makes every decision feel important. I really enjoy this mechanic, and it's one of the things that sets The Duke apart from other abstract strategy games.

The components are also really nice. I love the solid wood pieces, and the board is a decent size and sturdy. I did have one minor complaint about the board, I found that the laminated surface creased a lot, making it hard to keep flat. I also noticed a bit of inconsistency in the color of the pieces, some are darker shades than others. Some people have mentioned print errors and quality control issues, and I can't say I haven't experienced some of these myself, but they didn't really affect my gameplay. Overall, I think it's a great value for the price, and I'm happy with the components.

The game is definitely more complex than chess, but it's still easy to learn and play. I was able to teach it to my friends who had never played before, and they all enjoyed it. I can recommend it to anyone who enjoys abstract strategy games. If you're looking for a game that is both challenging and fun, The Duke is definitely worth checking out.
