Deep Dive
Deep Dive review
Deep Dive is a cute, light set-collection game that's a great choice for families with younger children. The penguin theme is adorable and the game is easy to pick up and play. The core mechanic of flipping over ocean tiles and deciding whether to take what you see or dive deeper for a bigger reward, but risk encountering predators, is simple enough for kids to grasp, but also offers a fun layer of tension and strategic decision-making.
My kids absolutely loved the game, and we've played it many times. They especially enjoyed the thrill of diving deeper and hoping for a big catch, even if it meant risking their penguins getting eaten! The set collection aspect is also engaging, and they quickly learned to target the colors they needed to complete their sets for maximum points.
However, I do understand why some players might find the game too basic. The gameplay is certainly light and doesn't offer much depth for experienced gamers. The set-up can also be a bit of a chore, with all the little ocean tiles needing to be laid out, and it can look messy on the table.
Overall, I'd recommend Deep Dive for families looking for a fun, light, and thematic game that's easy for younger kids to play. It's not going to be a game that appeals to hardcore gamers, but for a casual, family-friendly experience, it's a solid choice.
