Darkest Night review

Darkest Night is a fully cooperative game for one to four players, where you take on the role of heroes trying to save a kingdom from a powerful necromancer. The game is simple to learn, but challenging to master, and offers a lot of replayability with its nine unique heroes and their diverse abilities. The game can be played solo, but I found it to be much more enjoyable with two players. The cooperative elements are more engaging when you have to coordinate with another player to use your powers to each other's benefit. The game has a lot of atmosphere, thanks to its moody artwork and gripping premise. You'll need to make tough choices about how to spend your time – do you go after holy relics to defeat the necromancer in combat, or do you gather them to perform a ritual to banish him?

The game does have some weaknesses, however. It can be slow-paced, especially with four players, as each hero only gets one action per turn. This can lead to some downtime, especially if you fail a roll for a search or an attack. I also found that the game can be a bit luck-based, especially when it comes to rolling dice for searches and attacks. The game also lacks the thematic depth of some other fantasy games, like Arkham Horror, which can be a bit of a drawback for players who enjoy that kind of immersion.

Overall, Darkest Night is a solid cooperative game that offers a lot of replayability and a fun, challenging experience. It's a great option for solo players or groups looking for a quick, thematic game that can be enjoyed in an hour or less.
