Creature Comforts review

Creature Comforts is a delightful game that brings a charming forest theme to the table. I was immediately drawn to the cute animal illustrations and the promise of building cozy dens for the winter. The game mechanics, while not overly complex, offer a good amount of strategy and decision-making, making it engaging for both experienced and casual gamers.

The game revolves around gathering resources during the spring, summer, and fall, then using them to acquire furniture and other comforts for your den. It feels like a lighter, more approachable version of Everdell, which is a good thing, as I find Everdell to be a bit overwhelming at times. I appreciate the lack of direct player interaction, making it a great choice for a relaxed family game night.

While the game is advertised as a 40-minute experience, I found it to be closer to 2 hours in our first play-through. We played the standard game, and it took some time to get comfortable with the rules and all the different actions you can take. This might deter younger players or those looking for a quick game.

The components are well-made and visually appealing. The board is thoughtfully designed, and the animal figures are charming. The only minor complaint I have is that some of the components are a bit small and easily lost.

Overall, I highly recommend Creature Comforts. It's a charming, strategic game with a delightful theme and solid replayability. Just be prepared for a longer play time than the advertised 40 minutes. If you enjoy worker placement games with a bit of a family-friendly twist, this one is definitely worth checking out.
