Carnival of Monsters
Carnival of Monsters review
Carnival of Monsters is a fun, fast-paced card drafting game that I've really enjoyed playing with my family and friends. The premise is simple: you're a monstrologist trying to collect the most impressive menagerie of monsters to impress the Royal Monstrological Society. Each player drafts cards representing different lands, which you use to capture monsters. The game has a great theme, and the artwork is beautiful. I especially love the thick, high-quality cardboard tokens!
The gameplay itself is quite engaging. There's a nice balance between drafting cards, managing resources, and building your menagerie. It's definitely a game where strategy comes into play, but it's not overly complicated, making it easy to pick up and learn. My family found the rules easy to grasp, even though we were all unfamiliar with card drafting games.
One of the things I really appreciate about Carnival of Monsters is that it offers a lot of replayability. Each game feels different thanks to the randomized card drafting, and the various ways to score points provide a lot of different paths to victory. While some reviewers found the game lacking in player interaction, I actually enjoy the strategic element of anticipating what your opponents might draft and trying to outmaneuver them.
Overall, I highly recommend Carnival of Monsters if you're looking for a fun and engaging card drafting game. It's a great choice for families and groups of friends, and it's sure to provide hours of entertainment. I've even started to incorporate some of the terms from the game into our everyday language, just like I used to do with Magic: The Gathering!
